Our Founding Story & Mission
The Student Food Bank of Kenya (SFBK) was founded to tackle a widespread yet often invisible crisis in higher education: chronic food insecurity among university students. Across Kenya's public and private campuses, thousands of promising young scholars face daily hunger, compromising their health, mental wellbeing, and academic potential.
We bridge the gap between food waste and student need. By partnering with commercial farms, supermarkets, hotels, bakeries, and food distributors, SFBK rescues wholesome surplus food before it is discarded and delivers it directly to dignified, on-campus food hubs.
Our mission is simple yet transformative: zero hunger on campus, so every student can focus on their education, innovate, and graduate to lead Kenya's future.

Food Rescue Operations
Rescuing fresh produce, baked goods, packaged foods, and farm surplus to prevent waste and feed students.
University Pantry Hubs
Establishing confidential, well-equipped campus pantries where eligible students receive dignified food support.
Research & Evidence
Conducting anonymized campus food security surveys to inform national policy and donor evidence.
Founding Leadership & Departmental Structure

1. Founder & Executive Director
Reports To: Governing BoardFocus: Overall leadership, strategic vision, donor relations, and national university partnerships.
Leads fundraising conversations, approves major expenditures, and chairs executive leadership.
2. Co-Founder & Operations Director
Reports To: Executive DirectorFocus: Day-to-day execution, departmental coordination, and campus logistics oversight.
Supervises food safety, volunteer networks, technology systems, and transport operations.
3. Research, Evidence & Impact Lead
Reports To: Executive DirectorFocus: Student surveys, baseline indicators, impact measurement, and donor evidence reports.
Ensures confidential data collection, measures food rescue volumes, and validates student outcomes.
4. Food Safety & Quality Assurance Lead
Reports To: Operations DirectorFocus: Guaranteeing food safety so food rescue never compromises student health.
Holds absolute authority to REJECT unsafe food and HALT distribution at any campus point.
5. Strategic Partnerships & Resource Lead
Reports To: Executive DirectorFocus: Supermarket partnerships, farm surplus donors, corporate sponsors, and grant proposals.
Builds donor prospect pipelines and negotiates recurring food supply commitments.
6. Operations & Logistics Lead
Reports To: Operations DirectorFocus: Transport schedules, route optimization, warehouse inventory, and pantry stock replenishment.
Tracks collection completion, turnaround efficiency, and zero-waste logistics.
7. Volunteer & Community Engagement Lead
Reports To: Operations DirectorFocus: Student volunteers, campus ambassador chapters, shift scheduling, and volunteer training.
Manages volunteer recruitment, campus drives, and student chapter coordination.
8. Communications & Marketing Lead
Reports To: Operations DirectorFocus: Public awareness, donor storytelling, and media relations while strictly guarding student privacy.
Produces annual reports, social campaigns, and public transparency collateral.
Our Food Safety & Quality Guarantee
Student health is sacred. Our Food Safety Lead possesses non-negotiable authority to inspect every donation. Food that does not pass cold-chain, temperature, packaging, or freshness checks is immediately rejected before reaching campus pantries.
